The Olympiaregion Seefeld \u2013 Tyrol’s high plateau \u2013 is starting the winter with a lot of energy, because the cross-country skiing season should not be left to chance this year. With targeted investments in state-of-the-art snowmaking technology and a brand new high-altitude trail in Wildmoos, the region is optimizing its offering \u2013 for both leisure cross-country skiers and those with sporting ambitions. Below you can find out what cross-country skiing highlights await you in the coming season around Leutasch and Seefeld and what benefits you can enjoy as a Weidacherhof guest.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Guaranteed snow thanks to extended snowmaking<\/h6><\/div>

Leutasch has invested heavily in snowmaking: The recently completed forest trail<\/a> can now be covered with artificial snow along its entire length \u2013 and particularly efficiently. This is made possible by an innovative central air system that significantly reduces the energy consumption of the snowmaking system and remains efficient even at temperatures as low as -3 \u00b0C. A total of around 4 km of trails in Leutasch can now be covered with artificial snow, which ensures significantly more guaranteed snow early on in the winter.<\/p>\n<\/div>

\"Forest<\/span><\/div>
Seefeld is also upgrading:<\/h6><\/div>

The existing World Championship snowmaking system is running at full capacity for the first time this winter. Three new snow cannons on towers and 22 additional snow lances have been added to the existing system (installed for the 2019 Nordic World Ski Championships). This means that snow can now be produced on the entire world championship trail network. In addition, two critical sections of the C2 trail towards Wildmoos were equipped with snowmaking to increase snow reliability and thus the length of the season.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Precaution through fresh snow depots<\/h6><\/div>

Fresh snow depots complement the strategy for cross-country ski trails with guaranteed snow: in optimal winter weather, snow is produced by machine at three locations (two in Leutasch, one in Seefeld) and stored temporarily. This “snow in stock” is then used when needed to lay out more trails or improve existing tracks \u2013 ideal in case Mother Hulda is late. In Seefeld, the stored snow is even transported to trail B1 using a special tracked dumper (a tracked snow transporter), which is particularly gentle on the ground. All these measures ensure that you will find top conditions on the trails early and consistently.<\/p>\n<\/div>

New high-altitude trail Leutasch-Wildmoos: a natural jewel for experts<\/h6><\/div>

A special highlight is the new high-altitude trail Leutasch-Wildmoos<\/a>. This approximately 7.5 km long trail revives parts of the original Olympic trail from 1976 \u2013 cross-country skiing enthusiasts can look forward to a historical flair. The panorama trail runs at a wonderful altitude (around 1,300 m) between the Katzenkopf mountain station and the A3 Torfstich trail at the Wildmoosalm. It leads through an untouched winter landscape and can rightly be described as a real natural gem. This route is a real treat, especially for experienced cross-country skiers looking for a challenging tour with a view. <\/p>\n

The new high-altitude trail can be reached via the region’s extensive network of trails \u2013 regardless of whether you start from Leutasch, Seefeld, Neuleutasch or M\u00f6sern-Buchen. There is a special treat for the ascent: as a cross-country skier, you can take the Katzenkopf chairlift from Leutasch free of charge (there and back), provided the high-altitude trail is open and you have your cross-country skiing equipment with you. This saves you the ascent and you can use all your energy for gliding and enjoying the high-altitude trail. <\/p>\n

The environmentally friendly journey to the high-altitude trail is also well organized. Your cross-country ski trail ticket (whether day or week ticket) includes free use of all regional buses in the region as well as the special Wildmoos bus. For example, you can easily get from the Weidacherhof to the Wildmoosalm on the ski bus \u2013 at no extra cost. Cross-country annual pass holders even have the train journey from Innsbruck included free of charge. This makes it as easy as possible for you to reach this new cross-country highlight stress-free.<\/p>\n<\/div>

245 km of cross-country skiing fun: start of the season and opening times<\/h6><\/div>

The Olympiaregion Seefeld is not one of the top cross-country skiing destinations in Europe for nothing. Over 245 kilometers of perfectly groomed trails await you on the high plateau. Most of the trails are double-groomed, meaning you can glide along everywhere in both classic and skating style. The daily trail opening times are from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm; there is also a floodlit night trail in Leutasch, which is open Monday to Friday from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm. <\/p>\n

Thanks to snow farming and technical snowmaking, the region is aiming for a very early start to the season: The first trail (A2 Snowfarming trail in Leutasch) is set to go into operation as early as November 14, 2025 \u2013 provided the temperatures are right. This means that ambitious cross-country skiers can already do their laps in late fall. All in all, the Seefeld region is creating the ideal conditions for a long, snow-sure and enjoyable cross-country skiing season. <\/p>\n

Family friendliness is a top priority:<\/strong> Children and young people up to the age of 15 can cross-country ski for free in the region. There are also special discounted rates for groups (from 10 people, with advance booking) and guests with disabilities. Those who are often out and about on the trails can purchase a season or annual pass \u2013 advance sales for these traditionally started on September 1 (until the end of November, the pass is available at an early bird discount price). With just one ticket, you’ll be right in the middle of the cross-country skiing fun all winter long and enjoy all the region’s inclusive services (including free bus and lift use as mentioned above).<\/p>\n<\/div>

On the cross-country ski trails in the Seefeld region, you can not only rely on top conditions, but also on the best service and safety. An experienced, medically trained cross-country ski trail service team is out and about every day to provide you with help and advice directly on site. Whether it’s questions about the trail, slope checks or even in an emergency \u2013 the helpers are quickly on hand. All emergency calls on the cross-country ski trails are forwarded directly to the Seefeld region’s own cross-country ski trail rescue team via the Tyrol regional control center, enabling extremely fast and competent assistance. This comprehensive safety concept is unique in the world and gives you a good feeling when you glide through the winter landscape with us.<\/p>\n<\/div>
